Away from the river, residents can enjoy a variety of city parks dotted around the downtown area and surrounding neighborhoods. Meanwhile, Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden offers more than 50 acres of gardens and greenhouses to enjoy on a fine day.

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) is free to enter and boasts a huge collection of both modern and historic artwork, with more than 70 galleries to negotiate. Each month, the museum hosts a party to celebrate the arts. On the streets, Richmond’s art scene continues to thrive, with murals adorning walls throughout the city.

Richmond is also a great place to celebrate the performing arts, with theatre and dance performances to be enjoyed in a variety of theatres, large and small. Several festivals take place throughout the year, such as the Richmond Shakespeare Festival hosted by the gorgeous Quill Theatre.
