I chose MAA Nixie because it is a beautiful new community in a great RTP location. The apartments, amenities, and overall design are attractive, and the staff has been pleasant to work with.
My biggest disappointment has been security. During my tour, I was left with the impression that the community was access controlled. After moving in, I discovered that only portions of the building are secured with keypads while other residential areas are openly accessible. As someone who specifically chose this property because I believed it offered controlled access, this has been frustrating and has left me feeling less secure than expected.
Another significant frustration is the package delivery system. Residents are now expected to use Fetch for package deliveries. I chose not to enroll because I don't believe I should have to pay a third party to receive packages at my apartment. As a result, I now have to worry about office staff refusing or returning deliveries—including time-sensitive medications—which creates unnecessary stress. I wish this policy had been clearly disclosed before I signed my lease, as it has had a significant impact on my day-to-day living experience.
If security and convenience are important factors in your apartment search, I recommend asking detailed questions during your tour about exactly which entrances, hallways, parking areas, and residential spaces require resident key code access, as well as how packages are handled. Terms like "access controlled" can mean different things, and package delivery policies can have a real impact on daily life.
