Overall, my experience living here has been positive. The apartment is conveniently located behind the CTA Red Line, with many stores (Aldi, Whole Foods) within walking distance, as well as pharmacies (CVS, Walgreens, UrgentCare). There are numerous restaurants nearby, the area feels safe, and it's well-connected to other neighborhoods in Chicago. The lounge is consistently well-maintained, and maintenance is always prompt in addressing work orders. Henry and Ana, in particular, are friendly, approachable, and always have a smile. The package room has been secure, and I've never experienced issues with lost or stolen mail. The building feels safe overall, with key fob access and a reliable intercom system for guest entry.
However, I've had some negative experiences with the management that have impacted my overall satisfaction. Rosa, the building manager, has been consistently difficult to interact with. My first experience moving in was unpleasant, as I was greeted with an attitude for being a couple minutes late to pick up my keys. On several occasions, I've felt disrespected in her presence, as if my questions or concerns were an inconvenience. Emails from management often come across as passive-aggressive, which made communication challenging. Unfortunately, these interactions led me to avoid engaging with management as much as possible. Additionally, Cagan Management, in general, has been unresponsive to leasing inquiries, so I would advise caution if you're considering renting from any of their other properties.
Another point of concern is the expectations upon move-out. The building requires apartments to be spotless upon leaving, with charges ranging from $20 to $75 per item that is not cleaned to their standard. It seems like they expect tenants to hire professional cleaning services. I hope the $450 move-in fee charged to the next tenant is partially allocated toward cleaning, and it's unclear what this fee covers.
