Current Resident

I have lived at Villa Bonita and pay a significant amount in rent, so I expect professionalism, consistency, and basic respect from management. Unfortunately, a recent experience with both the onsite manager and ownership has left me extremely disappointed.
Following the death of a family member, I temporarily had bags containing some of his belongings in my assigned parking space while arranging to get them to storage. The onsite manager knew this and that I had family staying with me because of the death.
Instead of contacting me privately, management photographed the belongings in my assigned space and included the photo in a community-wide email telling residents that personal belongings were prohibited in parking spaces and could be disposed of.
To be clear, I am not disputing the rule. Once told that parking spaces are for vehicles only, I acknowledged it and will comply. My issue is how I was treated.
Management knew whose parking space it was and had my contact information. A call, text, or email would have resolved the issue. More troubling, the belongings had already been removed when the email was sent to residents.
When I raised my concerns, the onsite manager called the email a “general reminder.” But a general reminder did not require photographing one resident’s belongings and distributing the image to the community.
I escalated the issue to ownership, hoping they would at least acknowledge that it could have been handled with greater discretion and empathy. Instead, ownership simply reiterated the parking policy and said residents would not know whose space was pictured, completely missing the point.
I also asked whether the “vehicles only” rule is enforced consistently, including the real estate signs I have observed stored in the onsite manager’s parking space and belongings I have seen in other residents’ spaces. That concern was not addressed. For what residents pay to live here, I expect much better treatment.
