London, Ontario has a population of over 380,000 people and is situated in the southern portion of the province, near the Thames River and close to the Canada/United States border. It spans over 420 square kilometres and is located close to the communities of St. Thomas, Stratford, Kitchener, and Sarnia. London is the largest southwestern Ontario municipality and offers plenty of amenities such as shopping centres, entertainment options, schools, and parks. It holds a number of music, seasonal, and theatre festivals throughout the year, bringing many tourists to the area.
Real Estate Market Overview
The average residential sale prices in London range between $250,000 and $400,000. In the northern section, there are many higherpriced, newer single-family homes, as well as some more affordable older single-family homes. Condo options are also available in this area, and there are some smaller commercial options. Vacant land is not common. Transportation
Public transportation in the city is operated by the London Transit Commission, which has a fleet of buses that service around 44 routes throughout the city at all times of the day, and many are accessible for those with children, disabilities, or mobility issues. Plans are in place to build a bus rapid transit system in the city to provide more efficient travel throughout London. The city is also serviced by VIA Rail (train), Greyhound (long-distance bus), andthe London International Airport. VIA Rail’s London station connects Canadian cities with the United States and is the fourth-busiest passenger terminal in Canada.
Schools
There are four school boards operating public elementary and secondary schools in London. These are the Thames Valley District School Board, the London District Catholic School Board, the Conseil scolaire Viamonde (French schools), and the Conseil scolaire catholique Providence (French schools). Some examples of public schools in the area include Masonville, Victoria, St. Francis, Holy Cross, École élémentaire Marie-Curie, and École secondaire Gabriel-Dumont. There are also a number of private schools in the city. Post-secondary institutions in the city include the University of Western Ontario (offering undergraduate and graduate programs), Fanshawe College (degree, diploma, and certificate programs), and Westervelt College (private career college).
Family Life
The London Children’s Museum has numerous galleries with educational displays and activities to entertain children of all ages. Gallery themes include dinosaurs, the arctic, cave exploration, backyard science, space, and a replica of an old schoolhouse. The museum also hosts day camps and birthday parties, and has different programming from day to day. Storybook Gardens is a park featuring rides and attractions with fairytale and nursery rhyme themes. The park has been operating since 1958 and provides games, a skating trail in the winter, a splash pad in the summer, beautiful gardens, and fun at every turn. The park also hosts birthday parties and day camps. London is also home to a number of parks, historic sites, and community and recreational centres.
