St. John’s is located in the southeastern portion of the province and is home to a population of over 108,000 people. The city spans over 446 square kilometres near other communities such as Paradise. The city has a rich history, which can be experienced at various museums and through the historic churches and other buildings in the area. Being a coastal city, St. John’s has beautiful views of the ocean and is a busy harbour hub.
Real Estate Market Overview
With average house prices ranging from $270,000 to $400,000, St. John’s can be an affordable place to live. The northern section of St. John’s includes a mix of newer single-family homes, condos, and row houses, as well as plenty of vacant land.Both newer and older single-family homes can be found in the city’s central section, as can condo options and vacant land. Older single-family homes are more common in the southern section near the downtown area, with newer options found closer to the city’s outer edges in this section. Vacant land is also available here. Commercial spaces are most commonly found in the southern section, and normally come at a high cost.

Transportation
Metrobus Transit provides public transportation in the city, with over 50 buses servicing close to 20 routes.There are also routes linking the city with surrounding communities such as Mount Pearl and Paradise. About half of the bus fleet is accessible for those with wheelchairs and strollers, although the company plans to purchase additional accessible buses in the next few years. Over three million people use Metrobus Transit’s services each year. Residents can also travel via the St. John’s International Airport.

St. John’s has two school boards: the Eastern School District and the Conseil Scolaire Francophone.Schools in the city include Bishop Abraham, Macdonald Drive Elementary, St. John Bosco, Virginia Park Elementary School, Prince of Wales Collegiate, St. Andrew’s Elementary, Gonzaga High School, District School, Brother Rice Junior High, Waterford Valley High, and École des Grands-Vents. Private school options are also available. Post-secondary institutions in St. John’s include College of the North Atlantic, with programs in business, trades, arts, tourism, and healthcare; Memorial University of Newfoundland, offering undergraduate and graduate programs in arts, education, social sciences, languages, business, medicine, and technology; and Queen’s College, with courses in theological studies.
Family Life
The Rooms is a combination of provincial archives, a museum, and an art gallery. It houses exhibits and programs related to the natural world, art, history, and architecture. Artifacts include photographs, clothing, tools and equipment, documents, works of art, and plant and animal specimens. The venue holds events throughout the year and can be booked for private functions. The Memorial University of Newfoundland Botanical Garden features plants and trees from Newfoundland and around the world. The 100-acre nature reserve features walking trails, themed garden areas, wetlands, forests, and a greenhouse, as well as a café and gift shop. A number of events and guided tours are held throughout the year.
