Vancouver is a city in the province of British Columbia and it is considered one of the most liveable cities in the world. Mountains and waterways are found throughout the city, and Vancouver Island is just a ferry or plane ride away. There are many arts festivals in Vancouver, such as the Vancouver International Film Festival and the Vancouver Folk Music Festival. The city is often referred to as “Hollywood North”, due to its large involvement inthe entertainment industry. The city is very ethnically diverse, with a large population of Chinese and Filipino people.
Real Estate Market Overview
There is a high demand for housing in the city of Vancouver. Foreign buyers have made up a large part of the people who are buying in the city and have contributed to the high demand and high pricesin the housing market. A 15% foreign buyer tax was implemented, in hopes of keeping the demand for properties in the city under control. The city has been ranked as having the third most unaffordable housing market in the world. Sales have been slowing down, but the city continues to be a hot housing market.
Rental Market
Rental housing popularity has grown in the city, with young people starting to look towards renting for their whole life, ratherthan the more traditional mentality of renting, and then owning their own house. Schools
Vancouver is a great place to get an education. Students in the city tend to score higher than anywhere else in the country on their science, math and reading skills. The Vancouver School Board manages all of the English public schools in the city. There is a francophone school board in the city as well, called Conseil scolaire francophone de la Colombie-Brittannique. There are a wide variety of schools in the area, including schools that offer French immersion, Montessori system teaching, and art schools. In addition to elementary and secondary schools, Vancouver has a great selection of post-secondary options for students to attend. A few of these options include the University of British Columbia, Vancouver Community College and Columbia College.
Family Life
Vancouver is very welcoming for families. There are plenty of places to explore, and activities to participate in. Some of these include Watermania, which has a wave pool and water slides, and the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre, for families who enjoy learning about space. Outdoor activities are popular in the city, with mountains, water and trails nearby. Along with these attractions, the city has many parks and gardens that make for a great day out with the kids. There are many different summer camps for children on vacation, catering to a varied range ofinterests.
