We needed a furnished rental for one month so that my wife could assist our son after a surgery. The house wasn’t perfect, but it checked off enough boxes on our criteria list that we felt it was a good fit for our needs. The landlord, Julie, seemed awesome at first. But trouble started on day 1. We moved my wife from our home in St. Louis to this house in Springfield. Julie gave us a time, and we rolled into town. Apparently the previous tenants really left her a trashed house. She said she was deep cleaning it for us, so we had to wait a little bit, which turned out to be 4 hrs. I even went over to help Julie. After we were finally able to move my wife in, it took my wife 3 days to truly clean the house. On top of that, she experienced ants and spiders (found one in the bed one night), and other issues popped up, like the plumbing under the kitchen sink was loose and leaking. In the end, we were just glad to have a place so that my wife could care for our son. According to Julie’s own lease, she said that our deposit would be returned after 30 days from my wife’s move out date. Been 6 weeks and I keep getting the old “checks in the mail routine.” I guess it’s because we don’t have Venmo, which was not mentioned when Julie accepted our rent/deposit check. So, beware of this rental house. The reality of the condition of the house is far different from the pictures. Chances are you are going to have a fight on your hands getting your deposit back too. We’re discussing that issue with our attorney presently. My best advice is just to pass on by this rental. Plenty of other rentals in Springfield around the same price.
