My partner and I have lived in the Old Port Arms building since April 2019. The building's location is ideal for its proximity to the abundance of the many local attractions, such as concert venues, restaurants, and bars. However, parking on the street comes with its challenges. During the summer it is busy with the influx of tourists and often difficult to find a space. Parking availability is often better during the winter, but be prepared to move your car for snow bans. The building itself is very charming and our apartment has very high ceilings. The windows are beautiful and extend all the way to the ceiling, but they are very drafty, making it difficult to maintain a comfortable temperature in the winter. Noise from adjacent bar can be excessive up until and sometimes past 1am in the summer. Maintenance is typically very responsive to any requests and the technicians have always been helpful and respectful. There is a laundry room conveniently located in the basement. However, there are only two washers and two dryers for the whole building and often times at least one washer/dryer is broken. Both the washers and dryers are pretty run-down and coin-operated and it was difficult to get quarters due to the national coin shortage. I've lived in apartments with cards that you can load funds onto for laundry and I'd like to see that implemented here (as well as more reliable machines). We have had limited interactions with other residents in the building, but everyone seems to be friendly and respectful of the commons spaces. Overall, we have really enjoyed living in the building and would highly recommend it to others searching for housing in the area.
