Oak Park, IL
One of the most iconic Chicagoland suburbs, Oak Park has long been praised and envied for its many wonderful features. Displaced by the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, many farmers settled here and literally built their new community from the ground up. The most famous contributor of all, however, is Frank Lloyd Wright (FLW). Soon after moving to this small West Side village with his wife in 1889, he permanently transformed the area with his distinct architectural style. Thanks to him and other innovative artists, Oak Park boasts the largest collection of FLW designs worldwide and over 2,400 historic sites overall! Additionally, residents are in proximity of the Grand Illinois Trail and the Illinois Prairie Path where they can enjoy strolls, runs, and bike rides. Cultural aficionados will also feel right at home within the active arts community, or at one of several neighborhood libraries and theaters. Those who enjoy trying something new on a consistent basis will never get bored with the quirky local shops or welcoming cafes and restaurants. Commuting to work? Hop on the Green or Blue CTA Lines, or take a bus into Chicago. The Oak Park Metra stop is also nearby, as is the Eisenhower Expressway for longer trips.
