The Berkshire Apartments

I moved here in July 2024, and as someone new to D.C., I initially found this to be a decent place to live—especially for my first apartment. The building is located just down the street from American University, so it's popular with college students. If you’re okay with frequent noise like loud conversations, laughter, dogs barking, inappropriate sounds, and the occasional shouting, then it might be a good fit for you. One of the highlights is the staff—they're friendly and generally helpful when they have the answers. However, the gym could use some upgrades. I’d recommend adding a cable machine and removing a couple of the treadmills to make better use of the space. The location is great for outdoor activities; if you enjoy walking or jogging, the surrounding area is ideal. Plus, there's a Giant grocery store just a 10-minute walk away. Parking, however, is a major drawback. Street parking is extremely limited, so I strongly suggest budgeting for the $200 monthly garage parking fee in addition to your rent payment to ensure you always have a spot when coming home from work or school. Overall, this apartment is okay, but it comes with trade-offs. Between the noise levels, limited natural lighting (especially on lower floors), and the cost, it's important to consider whether these factors align with your lifestyle before committing to living here.

Overall, not bad. My main issue is the noise above me from neighbor. Its like they try to get their 10k steps in wearing cinder blocks on their feet! And, i hear everything, i mean everything. Also, no security of any kind at front door, anyone can just walk in. When will the AC be turned on?
