I only write reviews if they are positive. This is my one exception. I moved out of Scottsdale Horizon Apartments in 2019 and was blamed for the attached photo on Google of a crack in the kitchen granite around the sink. Scottsdale Horizon sent me a bill for $1,850 to replace the entire slab of granite. I was told because I did not note on my move-in walkthrough that I would be held responsible. I did not mention on my move-in walkthrough because I thought it was obvious that the granite was old (several hairline cracks throughout the slab) and I did not suspect I would be taken advantage of. It's worth noting that I practiced real estate around this time so I was well versed with helping clients with move-in/move-out inspections. I had a professional granite repair company evaluate the crack and they deemed "normal wear and tear". I did not pay the granite charge at move-out after explaining to this complex I felt it was unlawful to have to pay for a repair for a crack I did not cause. I forgot about the incident until 2021 when it showed up on my rental history report and prevented me from moving forward with renting. I fought it to the best of my ability but ended up begrudgingly paying for the granite replacement after it was moved to collections. I've rented several apartments before and after this experience, and this is the worst experience I've ever had as a renter. I want other potential renters to be aware so they can protect themselves.
