Nestled between the communities of Halton Hills in the southeastern portion of the province is the city of Guelph. Its population of over 131,000 resides within the city’s area of more than 86 square kilometres. With multiple parks and recreation centres, the city provides residents with a variety of activities to choose from, and the Speed River and Eramosa River, as well as many small creeks, provide beautiful scenery. Public transportation makes it easy to travel, both within the city and to other nearby communities.
Real Estate Market Overview
Guelph has mid-range housing prices, with averages ranging from $360,000 to $600,000. In Guelph’s northern section, there is a mix of newer, high-priced single-family homes and older, more affordable single-family homes, as well as commercial space and high-priced vacant land.This section also offers some row house options. The central section of the city also offers a mix of older and newer single-family homes, along with condo options and commercial space. Newer built single-family homes and condos can be found in the southern section of Guelph, as well as high-priced vacant land.

Guelph has a diverse economy, with industries such as agri-food and innovation, environmental technology, advanced manufacturing, information and communication, tourism, life sciences, and educational services.Manufacturing employs the largest number of people in the city, particularly auto parts/fabricated metal product manufacturing. Major employers in Guelph include Linamar, the Upper Grand District School Board, and the University of Guelph. Movie and television production is a growing industry in the city, with a number of large projects filmed in the area over the past several years. Guelph’s unemployment rate has been one of the lowest in the country, sitting at around 4%.
Transportation
Guelph Transit operates public bus transportation in the city, with around 70 vehicles servicing close to 30 routes. Most buses are accessible for those with mobility issues or baby strollers. The city has three main transit hubs: Guelph Central Station, the University of Guelph, and Stone Road Mall. Residents can also travel via GO Transit (bus or train), Greyhound (long-distance bus), and VIA Rail (train). Many of these routes provide access to other nearby communities.
Schools
The Upper Grand District School Board, Wellington Catholic District School Board, Conseil scolaire de district catholique Centre-Sud, and Conseil scolaire Viamonde operate public schools in the city. Examples of schools in Guelph include Paisley Road Public School, Jean Little Public School, Central Public School, Victory Public School, Willow Road Public School, College Heights Secondary School, Sacred Heart Catholic School, Saint James Catholic High School, École Saint-René-Goupil, and École élémentaire L'Odyssée. Private school options are also available. The University of Guelph is the largest post-secondary institution in the city and offers undergraduate and graduate programs in business, arts, sciences, agriculture, and social sciences. Conestoga College also has a local campus in the city, with classes in business, and heavy equipment and other motive power trades.
Family Life
The Civic Museum provides information about the city’s history through exhibits, galleries, programs, and special events.The museum houses over 30,000 artifacts, such as tools, clothing, equipment, art, documents, photographs, and textiles. The museum can be booked for parties and other events, and visitors can enjoy shopping in the onsite gift shop. The Guelph Arboretum, operated by the University of Guelph, features a wide variety of plants displayed in distinct gardens and greenspaces. Garden types include Japanese, English, rose, rhododendron, and dwarf forest. The arboretum has numerous walking trails for visitors to explore.
