1) There currently is no sofa nor closet despite confirmation that these would be included when the lease was negotiated.
2) On parking: $32.00+ HST is the standard price of city parking on a monthly basis, but tenants at The New York building aren't presently eligible for a city parking permit because the building isn’t in a permitted parking zone. In my communication with the city of Ottawa, I was informed that I could initiate an application for the building to be rezoned as a permitted parking zone, but that this would take four weeks. Seeing as I have asked for parking from The New York which I was told would be available in October, there’s no purpose in applying in September. I am disappointed that I was not informed earlier and made responsible to apply for the building’s eligibility for city parking. What’s more, I’m frustrated that I am now scrambling for parking as I settle into a new city and job. I have sunk 70$ in parking costs since moving in Friday.
3) Amenities: I currently do not have access to the building facilities including the laundry, a mail room, central waste deposit, the study room and exercise room. I have already lost many issues from subscriptions that would have otherwise made their way to my mailbox and have parcels on the way. Damian has informed me that the mail room will be accessible by the end of the week, but that he has no information about the other building facilities. I want to clarify that it is highly problematic to advertise these building facilities and to consider withholding access to these facilities because of the pandemic when I negotiated the lease during the pandemic—and to leave tenants out the loop about their status. I think that you would agree that these facilities are a significant part of the rent.
Overall, I have very nearly lost patience with the move-in process overall and the disruption to my life, private and work, but I hope that my experience improves over the course of the year.
