I marked 8 years living at the Kenmawr; I call it my home. Conveniently situated in Pittsburgh's Shadyside neighborhood, it is the ideal location for someone -- like me -- who does not own a car.
The apartment is within easy walking distance of grocery stores, myriad restaurants, gyms, banking, laundry/dry cleaners, barbers, houses of worship. Public transportation is within an easy five or 10-minute walk: Fifth Avenue buses go to the Oakland section of the city, where Pitt and Carnegie-Mellon have their campuses as well as the Carnegie Museums and Music Hall. The 28X Express bus stops at the corner of Shady and Fifth avenues -- in 55 minutes for $2.75 you can be at Pittsburgh International Airport. Walk less than 10-minutes in the other direction to catch an express bus to downtown and all that it has to offer: sports venues, theaters, restaurants, shopping. Washers and dryers are located on each floor of the 8-story building; a well-appointed gym is in the lower level next to the mailroom. That is the physical plant.
It is, however, the staff that makes it a true home: a lobby doorman greets residents and visitors alike; the maintenance man responds quickly and efficiently to all manner of requests; the property manager maintains regular office hours and is available to answer any and all questions.
I've been here eight years; I'm not going anywhere else.
