We've lived at the same complex for about 7 years now. The first five years or so went by without any real problems. The last couple of years the ownership has changed, and you can tell. Plans to remodel apartments stopped, maintenance has been bad(no maintenance at some points), rental rates skyrocketed and the increases keep coming.
Now I hear that we are going to have to pay an additional $50 a month on top of increased rent because some people are using too much water? I've never heard of anything like this. It's the last straw for me.
Last year, I asked for a small favor and reminded the manager that we are super stable and quiet tenants who have never paid rent late or had a complaint against us. The response? "We've got a back log of 60 applications, someone else is waiting to take your place". Clearly this person isn't familiar with property management because good tenants who pay on time are rare and getting even rarer. If we move out and the apartment sits vacant for just a month or two, it will take a long time to make up for that lost rent. It would be better to not make large increases(and add extra fees for long showers), and just keep the good tenant paying a reasonable rate instead of jacking up prices and turning apartments over frequently.
We really wish we were shown just a little respect and not nickeled and dimed.
