The cost is still expensive for value. I like it's small, Woodbury is an ideal location - for me. I figured out ways to do laundry that I don't have to pay for. It's too expensive, doesn't always do a good job and isn't very convenient
Every good job is 30 minutes to an hour or more away. Fairfield County is very expensive. Hartford is about equal. As I am looking more towards that area, I have found comparative apartments at better or similar prices. But they are twice as large, better commute, more 'to do' in the surrounding area and some have in unit washer dryer or a hookup. I am now more willing to sacrifice my reason to be in Woodbury compared to the price, value and overall location - I'd still be close enough.
It's an extremely challenging job market. Some people are unemployed, not getting increases and on top of that the rising prices. But no matter someone's personal circumstance, you increase the rent no matter what. It's stressful, not a good customer experience, creates unit turnover (plus down time & cost refurbishing) and prohibits renters from participating in the local economy. Example: I don't eat at restaurants, I go to Dollar General
"Market Rate" is a made-up term. There are only two apartment complexes in Woodbury and not nearly enough in the surrounding towns. There is a dire need for more affordable housing, not luxury housing or just housing in general. But I don't see new construction. Instead of just raising the rent, how about building more apartments in the area?
875 / month in 1999 and now you advertise as 1550 / month. That is almost twice the original rate in just 5 years. Nobody gets pay increases to keep up with the increased cost of living, even in rent alone
