Ajax is located in the southeastern portion of the province along Lake Ontario, and is bordered by the communities of Whitby, and Glen Major. The city covers over 67 square kilometres and is home to more than 109,000 people. Ajax has a small-town feel, and residents take pride in their community by participating in events and festivals throughout the year. The city has plenty of natural areas to explore, and its location along Lake Ontario provides beautiful views.
Real Estate Market Overview
Homes in Ajax can sometimes be pricey, with average costs ranging from $500,000 to $750,000. Ajax’s northern section is predominantly made up of large, newer-built single-family homes on large lots, and the central section provides a mix of newer, high-priced single-family homes, older single-family homes, andnewer condos and row houses. Commercial real estate can also be found in the city’s central section. In the southern section, there are more condo options and older single-family homes. Transportation
Public transportation in Ajax is provided by Durham Region Transit, which operates a fleet of buses servicing around a dozen routes.Besides providing transportation within the city of Ajax, Durham Region Transit also operates other regional routes for the communities of Pickering, Whitby, Oshawa, and Clarington, and allows residents of each community to access neighbouring towns. Ajax’s GO Station is the main transportation hub, and also provides access to GO Transit trains and buses, which link the city to major urban centres like Toronto.
Schools
Primary and secondary schools in Ajax are operated by the Durham District School Board and Durham Catholic District School Board. Schools in the city include Eagle Ridge Public School, Applecroft Public School, Vimy Ridge Public School, Lakeside Public School, Nottingham Public School, Southwood Park Public School, Ajax High School, J. Clarke Richardson Collegiate, Mother Teresa Catholic School, St. James Catholic School, Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School, and Archbishop Denis O'Connor Catholic High School. Private school options are also available. CDI College is the only post-secondary option in Ajax. The college offers programs in art and design, business, healthcare, law, and technology. Other post-secondary options, such as Durham College, Liaison College, and Trillium College, can be found in neighbouring communities.
Family Life
Rotary Park is located on the Waterfront Trail and sits at the mouth of Duffins Creek. The park features playgrounds, a splash pad, a large pavilion, restroom facilities, a concession stand, and walking paths. Visitors can enjoy the beach or fish at the creek. Numerous events and charity walks are held at the park throughout the year. Endless Fun is an indoor play centre for kids with a three-level play structure including slides, mazes, climbing ropes, and a trampoline.There is a toddler area that allows smaller children to play safely, as well as a kid-friendly snack bar. The centre is available to book for parties and other events.
