With time left on this year’s Tornado Season, we’re looking at a few homes you might want to check out, unless you’re betting on luck and hoping the next twister will completely avoid your home. Here are some examples of properties located in Tornado Alley, currently listed on Point2Homes.
This 9,000 square-foot home is catered to those who love the finer things in life, especially wine. This estate offers potential owners a 5-bedroom 6-bath property, including a four-acre vineyard. Listed for sale at $1,475,000, the property also includes five patios, and a 1200-square-foot basement. But none of the amenities matter as much as the bonus of NOT having this sprawling estate fly away from you without notice. The construction is fitted with concrete exterior walls capable of resisting an F5 tornado. We can’t say the same about the grapes, though.
Yet another 5-bedroom home is next, with this 1997-built home in Georgia providing the potential home buyer with a number of features such as a sun room, media room, work-out room & large shop area with boat door. Views of the local golf course, a large front porch and brick paved driveway are also part of the package. Listed at $469,900, the two-floor home totals 8,144 square feet of space enclosed in a special concrete and aluminum/steel construction and 12’ exterior walls. The structure is built to be fire and tornado resistant, but that’s not its greatest feature. The home is also built to stop humanity’s greatest foe: termites.
Historically known as one of the best hang-out spots for tornados, Kansas proves that it can offer safe living in this 5-bed, 5-bath custom-built property. Located near the city of Wichita, the 2005-built house comes along with 120 acres of space, clearly catered to homebuyers looking for slightly more legroom than the average commercial airline has to offer. The property includes a host of high-end features such as pet room, gift wrapping room (yes, that’s apparently a thing), sitting library, work out facility and two offices. Clocking in at $2.2 million, the property also includes a much needed concrete safe room to make sure that you and Tonto won’t have to check whether you’ve left Kansas or not.
The Missouri home is located on a 0.34-acre lot and is the most recently-built home on this list, having been completed back in 2007. The 6-bed, 5-bath property is listed for $475,000 and features a number of modern design flourishes. An open kitchen, an office with French doors, wet bar, media center and large playroom complete the package. An outdoor fireplace and three parking spaces complete the outside image of the property. And finally, the reason why this home is on our list, a special room that will keep you safe during a twister, to make sure your home won’t be the inspiration for a Roland Emmerich movie.
Listed for $475,000 the home not only includes a custom kitchen, but a far more important 10×14 tornado room on its lower level, to make sure you’ll keep your feet on the ground. A butler’s pantry and a study, which we’re pretty sure were included in the development plan after the recent success of Downton Abbey, are also part of the package. This 4-bed, 5-bath home was completed in 2014 and plans to stay as little as possible on the market and as much as possible on the ground.
