Getting a good night’s sleep is extremely important. Not only does it improve your mood and productivity the next day, but it is also beneficial to your health. Unfortunately, more and more of us find it harder to doze off and enjoy the proper rest that comes from a blissful, undisturbed sleep.

However, there are lots of things we can change to ensure a good night’s sleep. And some bedroom design tricks might be the perfect place to start. Even the most restless sleepers will benefit from the following 7 bedroom hacks.

Cool Colours

Colour has the power to alter your mood without you knowing it. Certain vibrant shades, such as bright reds and oranges, are able to energize us, while cooler shades have the opposite effect. Pale blues, greens, and purples tend to put us in a more relaxed state of mind and encourage a better night’s sleep. So, if your bedroom is painted in bold, warm colors, it’s time for a makeover! Generally, blue is considered the best color for bedrooms and can improve your sleep considerably.

Improve the Air Flow

A major contributor to poor sleeping habits is a lack of proper air flow in the bedroom. Stuffy, stale air doesn’t encourage much rest, so it’s good to allow in fresh air. While the weather is good, it’s enough to simply open up a window as you sleep, though a fan or air conditioner works just as well.

Avoid leaving damp laundry in your bedroom overnight as this can make the air thick and harder to breathe, having a direct impact on the quality of your rest. It’s also a good idea to leave the space under your bed clear. This enables air to circulate more readily. So if you can store your stuff elsewhere, it’s recommended.

Keep the Noise Down

Peace and tranquility promote better sleep, so try to keep your bedroom as quiet as possible. Lay a rug to reduce the sound of footsteps as you or your partner move about the room. A good, solid wood door will block out more sound than a cheaper alternative. If you share your home with people, be sure to use the best materials for absorbing sound.

Lose the Light

A beautiful sunrise is a thing to behold, and natural light in a home is always a plus, but perhaps not in every room. Blinding light coming into your bedroom is a surefire way to wake you up before you’re ready, and can also make the room uncomfortably hot. Use thick, dark curtains or a heavy blind to block out natural light as you sleep. Thick curtains also do wonders for reducing sound from outside.

Go Tech Free

Your bedroom should be a tranquil escape from the pressures of life, and in this digital age, we’re surrounded by technology at every waking moment. TVs, cell phones, and computers all stimulate the brain, keeping it active and preventing you from getting some proper sleep. Make your bedroom a tech-free area and allow your brain to rest. Perhaps buy an old-fashioned analog alarm clock rather than relying on your phone to wake you each morning.

Warm Lights

Light bulbs come in various shades and colors, and in the bedroom, it’s best to avoid blue, cold lights. Fluorescent lighting and blue light from electronic devices are known to disrupt your circadian rhythms, in turn, disturbing your sleep. So, when choosing light bulbs for the bedroom, go for soft yellow lighting, which provides a comforting warmth. If possible, ensure you can switch the lights off and on from the comfort of your bed.

Build a Pet Bed

Your 4-legged friends may offer comfort and warmth, but if you’re struggling to get a good night’s sleep, they may be the reason. Sharing your space with another creature can be disruptive to your sleep, so try to encourage your pets to sleep in their own space. You can pick up pet beds pretty cheap, or even build one on yourself.
