Faces of Point2 – Alexandra Popoviciu

Alexandra PopoviciuTitle: Customer Care Representative
Started at Point2: January 2015

Meet Alex. She’s one of the newest members of Point2’s world class Customer Care team, and also the one hailing from the furthest away. Alex was born and raised in Sighișoara, Romania. She lived there until she was 14 when her family moved to Toronto, Canada. Two years ago she came to Saskatoon because she had heard good things about it…we’re assuming that she didn’t hear about our winters.

A self-proclaimed bookworm, Alex can always be seen in the lunch room with her nose buried deep in a book.

We asked Alex to answer a few questions about herself. Here’s what she had to say:

What is your favourite book of all time and why?
My favourite books are all the books in the Harry Potter series because they’re so interesting and magical. I read them a few times while growing up and each time, I felt that I’m getting closer to the true meaning of the author’s words. I hope when my son grows up, that he will read them too and learn as much from them as I did.

If you have an hour of free time to spare, what would you do with it?
I would read, read and read. As many of you have already been seeing me doing during my lunch breaks.

What kinds of food do you like?
I like vegetarian food and it’s a good thing because there’s not a lot of good options out there and it’s forcing me to cook more homemade food, which is definitely healthier. I prefer spicy food and anything deep fried.

What is the most interesting place you’ve ever traveled?
The most interesting place I’ve ever traveled to was the Black Sea in Romania. There are lots of different things going on there. One of my favourite things is the fact that there are lots of vendors everywhere, selling cool stuff. At night the streets are full of tourists, there is music coming from everywhere, and they sell the best doughnuts ever.

What is the best thing about your job?
The best thing about my job is the team I work with, I enjoy their sense of humour and I must say that it can really make my day sometimes. I also enjoy learning new things every day.

What are the words you live by?
“There must be a solution” and also “Free time is more valuable than money”.

If you could own one piece of famous art, sculpture, memorabilia, or historic artifact, what would the item be?
If I had the option of choosing anything in this world, it would be the first Apple product ever, which was a computer kit.

What was your last Do It Yourself project?
I’m not good at baking but I really enjoy homemade bread, so I bought a bread machine which is making really awesome bread so far. I pretty much make bread every day now. Another DIY project that I’ve started is my own garden. This is my first time ever planting everything by myself and I am a little bit nervous about the end result.

What athlete or sports figure do you most admire?
Russell Westbrook is my favourite basketball player. It isn’t necessarily his skills, but his determination that is making me admire him so much. Given the fact that most of the key players on his team were injured for the season, it’s pretty amazing that he got his team so close to making it for the Playoffs.

If you could have a super power, what would it be?
It would definitely be teleportation. It’s free and it saves time, win win! 😉
