Daniel Czank (with a silent “C”) is a programmer for one of our Yardi projects and would almost be considered a newbie if there hadn’t been so many hired after him. When asked if he goes by Daniel or something else, he said “Daniel, Dan, Danny…I’m okay with any of them.” This easy-going guy has interests in music, reading, writing, archaeology and cool new technology, and basically sounds like someone whose brain you’d want to pick. So we did!
We asked Daniel to answer a few questions about himself. Here’s what he had to say:
What is your favorite type of music?
The spectrum is wide, but I usually gravitate to music with focus on guitars and/or electronic sounds. Lately it has been those two criteria mixed with female vocalists, the guitars being acoustic. I also recently learned about Brass Pirate Metal, as in Brass Band, like trumpets. Yes, it is as good as it sounds.
What is your favorite movie of all time?
Requiem for a Dream. It’s unconventional in every way – the heroes and villains, the content, the resolution. I’ve never been so disappointed at the end of a film. I can’t get enough of it. Also, the soundtrack, wow.
If you have an hour of free time to spare, what do you do with it?
Read, write, run, repeat. I also try to put time in on classic bit-war era RPGs. The legit ones that came from the late 80’s and early 90’s. They knew what was up when they made those games.
What do you like best about your job?
I like that being here doesn’t feel like being at a job, it just feels like your putting in time on projects that you are really excited about and proud of to see move forward. It’s an entire building of people who seem to feel like that. So that’s nice.
If you could have dinner with anyone, alive or historical, who would it be?
Any one of my Grandfathers, from any point in my lineage.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
The same person I have always been, only wiser every day.
If you could own one piece of famous art, sculpture, memorabilia or historic artifact, what would the item be?
A moon rock? Or one of those very interesting rings you see people make out of meteorites. Maybe something from the Titanic.
What are some things on your bucket list?
There are parts of the world I want to see. The West Coast, from the bottom to the top, Norway, and basically any of the places they bring camera crews to on televisions “Ancient Aliens”. For the archaeology though, not because of the aliens.
What was your last Do It Yourself project?
The projects are piling up. Currently investigating the ins and outs of a small engine rebuild. Two stroke, single cylinder. I don’t know anything about engines yet though, or have a garage or a workshop, so it will be a challenge.
What online sites do you visit?
YouTube when I want to learn something, Reddit when I don’t.
If you could have a super power, what would it be?
The super power to have any super power whenever I wanted and for however long I wanted even if it’s the super power that you already have. And you can’t have it at the same time so if you had it it’s mine now and you need to pick a new one.
What is something about you that few people know?
I am incredibly uninterested in vacations to resorts. The idea of going to a far off land to sit by the pool just seems counterintuitive to a “getaway”.
