Being relatively new at Point2, we had to ask some of Warren’s direct coworkers to tell us a little bit more about him. They described him as a calm, seasoned professional and one who does not shy away from trying out new things. This already made him sound like such a great guy that we were even more surprised when they added the last part: “Judging from the fact that he recently injured his knee while doing a flip (he’s a gymnast), he’s superman!” (He does bear a bit of a resemblance to Christopher Reeve, doesn’t he??)
We asked Warren to answer a few questions about himself. Here’s what he had to say:
What is your favorite type of music?
Just watched Pink in concert last night. Really enjoyed it. I like a wide variety of stuff, often a few of the top songs of many artists. And then, I tend to like heavier grungier stuff, groups like Nickelback, Offspring, Nirvana, Theory of a Deadman, Linkin Park, etc.
What kinds of food do you like?
International type stuff, with an emphasis on curries.
What is the most interesting place you’ve ever traveled?
I have been to, and even lived in many interesting places. I find that almost everywhere has something special to offer. I think being outdoors, doing stuff is what I remember and value.
What do you like best about your job?
I like solving puzzles, and programming has a LOT of that.
What are the words you live by?
I try to follow “If you can’t say anything good, don’t say anything at all”. Not always successfully, but I try.
Do you speak any other languages, and which ones?
Fluent in French, or at least, I used to be. I can also struggle in Spanish and German, although I have heard that I have a bad French accent in both. Used to speak Thai as well, although a recent trip revealed that although I can still speak a few common and useful sentences, the flood of information that comes back makes it obvious how little I now know.
What was your last Do It Yourself project?
Finally finished my bedroom closets, a task that took me 13 years to complete. Pretty sad that it took me that long, but they look good and are uniquely customized to what we wanted.
What athlete or sports figure do you most admire?
I am really impressed by athletes who are so far beyond human norms that no-one else really has a chance. Some modern day examples would be Usain Bolt, Michael Phelps. I include Lance Armstrong in that list in spite of the recent events. I got to watch Carl Lewis live at the Los Angeles Olympics.
I admire athletes who are really successful, but remain really good people. It is hard to spend that much time dedicated to one tiny little aspect of life and not come out of it warped in some way.
