The Point2 team just flew back from San Francisco and, boy, are our arms tired! All joking aside though, it was a wonderful experience to be a part of the 2013 National Association of REALTORS® Conference & Expo. This marked our 8th year as an exhibitor.
Around 21,000 REALTORS® registered for the conference; that’s about 10% more than anticipated! When doors opened on Friday, a sea of agents and brokers flooded the aisles. We had so much fun meeting with Point2 users (and potential users) and demonstrating what Point2 can do in our onsite learning sessions. Our team from around the globe had a great time interacting with each other, too.
If you didn’t make it to SF – or perhaps you did and you just want to reminisce – here are our picks for the best of NAR 2013.
Most Informative Session
So we didn’t have time to go to every session, but fortunately the ones we did attend were super interesting. We really enjoyed the Emerging Business Issues & Technology Forum. The title of the talk was “Big Data and You: Predictive Marketing, Predictive Analytics and Data Visualization.” Key takeaways from the guest speakers were:
- “Social media is more about listening.” – Todd Carpenter, director of digital engagement for the National Association of REALTORS®, on the importance of using social media to get to know your audience for improved marketing.
- “I think predictive marketing is about knowing a member on an individual basis.” – Ted Loring, member of the new data strategy committee for NAR, referencing the need to learn more about your clients so you can market more strategically by offering them the information and services they need.
- “You are a highlighter.” – Joe Sullivan, user experience director for the Center for REALTOR® Technology, on making data memorable for your target audience. Use your website to highlight critical information so visitors stay focused.
Best Live Entertainment
Admittedly there’s not a lot of competition for this one (unless you count the bull mascot at PrimeLending), but the Hawaiian dancers at the DocuSign booth definitely took the cake for best live entertainment. The gang at DocuSign encouraged attendees to get their “aloha” on as part of a promotion for their Hawaiian Getaway Giveaway. There’s still time to enter!
Most Creative Booth
There were a lot of great booths at NAR. We especially loved the Liberty Mutual setup – a whole house, complete with a fireplace. We tried to sneak our leftovers into the fridge, but they weren’t having it!
Runner up goes to HomeSmart for their larger than life yard sign! Or maybe it’s actual size and all of the people in the photo are just super short.
We’re not sure if this technically counts as swag, but the fine folks at Realtor.com gave agents free makeovers and headshots. A refreshed look and agent photo? Now that’s the way to get ready for increased success into 2014! No wonder their booth was packed.
Most Cheerful Team
Ours, of course! Whether they were in meetings, talking with clients or hosting demonstrations, the Point2 team kept the energy up and smiles on everyone’s faces. We suspect it had at least a little to do with the glorious 70-degree weather, a real treat for those of us from Saskatoon.
Special kudos go out to Jacquelyn, who worked the booth while 5 ½ months pregnant, and our Santa Barbara sales associates, who didn’t let a cancelled flight stop them from attending.
We’re already looking ahead to NAR 2014 in NOLA. Will we be seeing you in the Big Easy? Oysters are on us!
