Coming ‘Round the Mountain

It’s my third day back at Point2 after a seven month leave.  I’m really excited to be back amongst all of the fantastic people here, and am delighted to be a part of the Point2 family once again.  I can’t wait to share some more tips, tricks and tutorials with all of you over the coming months, and do my part to increase the quality of real estate photos around the globe.

The past seven months have been somewhat of a dream for me.  I had a chance to tour through the city of Hong Kong, trek to Mount Everest Base Camp, complete the Annapurna Circuit, trek up to Annapurna Base Camp, put 18,000 km on a car in Australia, and even nose around Thailand to top things off.  I spent most of my time in national parks hunting for awesome views, curious wildlife, and pretty much anything wondrous and inspiring.

Although I’m not just a photographer, I do hold a special place in my heart for the medium.  There’s something about stepping out with a camera around my neck that just makes me feel free.

I haven’t had much time yet to edit any photos from the trip, but I managed to prep one photo from each country I visited and share… so here goes:

Hong Kong from the Victoria Peak lookout.

First stop: Hong Kong.  I only spent a few days here, so I didn’t get as much time to go out and shoot as I would have liked.  Without a doubt, Hong Kong is one of the most well organized and efficient cities I have ever seen.

High Camp - Annapurna Circuit, Nepal

Next Stop: Nepal.  I spent two months trekking through the Himalayas including a twelve-day trek to Everest Base Camp, and a twenty-four day trek around the Annapurna Circuit and up to Annapurna Base Camp.  I was up to 5500m (18000 feet) twice and 4130m (13500 feet) near the end.  I can honestly say, some of the greatest people in the world can be found trekking in Nepal.

Hat Head National Park, Australia

Main Stop: Australia.  I spent four months traveling around Australia in a 1993 Toyota Camry.  I got to every state except Western Australia, and found some of the most beautiful places I have ever seen.  Highlights for me include: crossing the Outback, trekking in Tasmania, trekking through the tropical rain forests of Queensland, and driving the Great Ocean Road.

Koh Phi Phi, Thailand

Last stop: Thailand.  I only had two weeks in Thailand which is not nearly enough.  However, I did get a chance to see some beautiful places like Khao Sok National Park, and Koh Phi Phi island.  It stayed around 38° C (100° F ) the entire time we were there, so I did become quite good at sweating, taking showers, and swimming.

In retrospect, the travels seem a tad surreal.  It took my partner and I two and a half years to plan out the trip, but it was absolutely worth it.  I think it just goes to show that you can achieve anything you want if you’re dedicated enough, and that life is truly worth living.  If you want to peruse photos from this trip and others, you can find me on flickr HERE.
