Located in southwest Saskatchewan, Swift Current is a small city of just over fifteen thousand people.

It sits on the TransCanada Highway 110 miles west of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan and 135 miles east of Medicine Hat, Alberta.

The city began as Swift Current Creek, a waterway which empties into the South Saskatchewan River. It was a Cree aboriginal camp for hundreds of years.

In the 1800’s fur traders found the creek as they headed west.

It was established as a settlement in 1882 when the Canadian Pacific Railroad line extended this far.

Swift Current became a major military base because it was so close to Battleford.

Its status changed from hamlet to village in 1904.

By 1907, the population had grown to five hundred and fifty. In 1914, it became a city.
