The Sarnia Sting plays for the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) at the Sarnia Sports and Entertainment Centre. Steven Stamkos was a player on the team until he was drafted to the NHL. Sarnia’s football team is called the Sarnia Imperials who play in the Northern Football Conference. They have won the Grey Cup twice.

Neighbourhoods

Sarnia North

Sarnia North is made up of Bright’s Grove, Point Edward, Rapids Parkway, Twin Lakes and Oak Acres. Bright’s Grove is located on the northeast side of the city along the shore of Lake Huron. Restaurants and shopping are a quick drive away, with many of these places located within the neighbourhood. There are elementary and secondary schools around the neighbourhood. Point Edward is also along Lake Huron and the St. Clair River. It is close to the Bluewater Bridge, which takes you to the United States. There is plenty of outdoor opportunity here as well with the parks around the area. Rapids Parkway is close to a few schools in the area. This is arguably why it is occupied by predominantly families. Twin Lakes has plenty of parkland for residents to enjoy. The amenities in the area are a short drive from the community and they include restaurants and shopping. Oak Acres is very close to many restaurants, parks and shopping. There are many schools around the area as well. The community is in close proximity to Lake Huron making it easy to spend a day out on the beach.

Sarnia South

Sarnia South includes the neighbourhoods of Heritage Park, Downtown Sarnia and College Park. Heritage Park is close to many parks. It is not far to get to restaurants and entertainment by car. There are also schools a short distance away from this community as well. Downtown Sarnia has everything from restaurants to shopping to festivals and parades. This community is lively and located near the St. Clair River. There are many school options located around the neighbourhood. College Park is located beside Lambton College. Restaurants, shopping and other entertainment is very close to the community. The Clearwater Community Park is located here as well.

Heritage Park has detached and single-family homes. The homes here are affordable.
Downtown Sarnia has apartments, multi-family homes and condominiums. The price can range from affordable to very expensive here.
College Park has detached and single-family homes as well as townhouses. The homes here are quite affordable and somewhat older.

There are four school boards that are present in Sarnia: the Lambton Kent District School Board, St. Clair Catholic District School Board, Conseil scolaire Viamonde and Conseil scolaire catholique de Providence. The Lambton Kent District School Board has 12 elementary schools and 5 secondary schools. The St. Clair Catholic District School Board has seven elementary schools and two secondary schools. Conseil scolaire Viamonde has French public schools in the area. There are two of these schools in Sarnia. Conseil scolaire catholique de Providence oversees the French Catholic schools. There are also two of these in the city as well. Sarnia only has one post secondary institution. It is Lambton College, which offers programs and diplomas as well as the opportunity for co-op and experience within the industry. There are other options nearby Sarnia such as the post-secondary institutions in Chatham-Kent.
