The city was originally called Sydenham, but it was later changed to Owen Sound.

The main sections of the city include the western area, the east and Downtown.

West

The western area of Owen Sound is located on the western side of the water. This area is filled with housing and amenities. Georgian Shores Marina and Kelso Beach are located along the water. There are churches and schools in the area with a few places to shop and dine.

East

The eastern area of Owen Sound is located along the eastern side of the water. The area has plenty of residential space. There are manyschools located here to accommodate children in the area.
