Hamilton is located in the province of Ontario on the western side of Lake Ontario. The Metro area has a population of over 721,000 people. This makes the city the third largest in Ontario and the ninth largest in Canada.

The city has many nicknames, but two of the most popular are "The Hammer" and "Steeltown" because of the large steel industry in the city.

For people who like to take a break and immerse themselves in nature, Hamilton is home to 3,840 acres of parkland. There are a staggering 394 parks in the city. The parks feature trails, ponds, sports areas and more. The parks are scattered all throughout the main sections of the city.
Hamilton also holds many festivals and events throughout the year. Some festivals are the Festival of Friends and FrancoFEST. Festival of Friends is a free music and arts festival. The festival is at the Ancaster Fairgrounds. FrancoFEST is another free festival that features live performances and activities. It is held in Gage Park.
As for shopping and nightlife, Hamilton offers plenty of options. They have a wide selection of malls throughout the city, but their largest is the Lime Ridge Mall, which has 163 stores. There are also many places to experience the city’s vibrant nightlife, but one of the more popular areas is Hess Village. They have events of all kinds on a weekly basis as well as select special events. The restaurants in Hamilton are diverse and serve food from many different cultures. There are Mandarin, Ethiopian and Italian restaurants, just to name a few.
Neighbourhoods
Hamilton has many family-oriented communities but there is something for young singles too. Areas like East Hamilton provide all of the attractions desired by young people, while more families dominate the areas of North Hamilton and South Hamilton. Each area has it’s own unique features and attractions.
In East Hamilton, you can find the popular Downtown area as well as other neighbourhoods such as Winona and Stoney Creek. The Downtown area features galleries and even yoga studios. More residential buildings are appearing in this area because of excited young people moving into the neighbourhood. Stoney Creek has a mix of families and young professionals. There are many schools in this neighbourhood to accommodate the families that live here.
North Hamilton includes the neighbourhoods of Waterdown, Dundas and Flamborough. In this area, there are many different clubs that are offered and looking for members. There are also a number of schools and libraries for students. One unique attraction in this area is the African Lion Safari, which has over 1,000 animals to observe.
In South Hamilton, you’ll find the neighbourhoods of Glanbrook, Binbrook and Mount Hope. These neighbourhoods provide many schools and they are close to other areas that provide shopping. Mount Hope is home to the John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport where you’ll also find the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum. There are many families in this area.

Education
Hamilton is home to two English school boards, the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board and the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic School Board.
The Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board has a total of 103 schools, 88 of which are elementary, and 15 secondary schools. The Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic School Board has 55 schools, 48 that are elementary and 7 that are secondary schools. There are also two French language school boards in Hamilton: Conseil scolaire de district catholique Centre-Sud, and Conseil scolaire Viamonde. Schools in Hamilton are culturally diverse and provide many opportunities for students.
There are five notable colleges and universities in the city: McMaster University, Mohawk College, Redeemer University College, Brock University and College Boreal. These institutions are recognized for the quality education that they provide to their students.
