Miramichi, New Brunswick is a city located in northern New Brunswick and is at the mouth of the Miramichi River, where it enters Miramichi Bay.

Miramichi’s population is over 17,000 people and it is located northwest of the large city of Moncton.

The city covers 179.84 square kilometers and is bordered by the Gulf of St. Lawrence to the east.

In 1995, two large towns and several smaller communities were combined to create the city of Miramichi.

The largest industries in Miramichi are mining, fishing, and forestry, but the biggest employer is the service industry.
Other industries in the area include tourism, customer service call centres, manufacturing, and government.
Many of the area’s wood and paper mills have closed, which left a gap in the local economy.

Entertainment and Tourism

Outdoor activities in and around Miramichi include hiking, water tubing, canoeing, fishing (salmon is popular), swimming, golfing, and biking. There are also a number of heritage sites to visit, including Beaubears Island, which includes an interpretive centre and historical reenactments of daily life and events in the area; Metepenagiag Heritage Park, which focuses on telling the story of the Mi’kmaq people who have lived in the area for thousands of years; and MacDonald Farm Heritage Site, which showcases life in the 1820s for Scottish settlers.
The city holds many festivals and events throughout the year, including music festivals, powwows, agricultural events, and historical celebrations. Main Sections of the City

The main sections of the city are the West, the central area and the East.


The west section of Miramichi has a number of small streams and rivers, as well as a few smaller parks. This section is home to the Speedway Miramichi (drag racing track) andQueen Elizabeth Park (Town Square). Most of the area is residential, with pockets of retail and other businesses located along the waterfront.



In the centre section of the city is the Miramichi Golf and Country Club, the Miramichi Airport, and Morrison Cove. This section also has some smaller parks and various small bodies of water. There is a mix of residential and commercial spaces in the area, with much of the commercial spaces located near the waterfront and along Highway 11.


Much of the east section of the city is residential and industrial/commercial in a rural-type setting, although there is a denser residential area located closer to the waterfront. This section includes Chatham Lake, as well as a few smaller bodies of water, and a few small parks.

Single-family housing is most common in the west section of the city, and comes at an affordable price. Most homes are on large lots, and some include a garage. Affordable vacant lots are also available in this section of the city.
In the centre section of the city, single-family homes are also most common. Most are affordable, but prices tend to go up the closer the homes are to the waterfront. There are also some newer townhomes/condos available in this area.
The east section of the city mostly has single-family homes, some of which are on large lots with double garages. Homes along the waterfront tend to be larger and come at a higher price.
