The northern section of the Interlake region is mostly rural, with a few small communities. Small lakes dot the landscape and there are many forest and grassland areas. Arenas, community centres, and other recreational facilities can mostly be found on the eastern edge of this section.

A few larger lakes and plenty of natural space can be found in the region’s central section. Beaches run along the western and eastern edges of this section, as do multiple small towns. Golf courses, provincial parks, farms, and campgrounds are common here.

The region’s southern section is more densely populated than the northern or central sections are, and includes golf courses, small airports, parks, rivers and creeks, and farmland.

Beaches are a big draw in the Interlake region, and residents and tourists have several to choose from. Gimli Beach is located on the southwestern shore of Lake Winnipeg and features a sandy beach, a marina, a boardwalk, a seawall with murals, a visitor centre, a playground, treed areas for shade, and restroom/change room facilities. The town of Gimli has numerous restaurants, shops, and entertainment options. Winnipeg Beach, located south of Gimli, has a boardwalk, sandy beach, concession area, and a bandstand.
