Main Sections of the City

The main sections of the city are the northen area, the central area and the southern area.

North

The north section of Port Alberni is residential with a rural feel, and includes the large neighbourhood of Alberni. The Alberni Golf Club can be found in this section, as well as a number of businesses, including retailers at the Alberni Mall and dining and entertainment options along the Alberni Inlet waterfront. Roger Creek and Beaver Creek run through this section and there are a number of small parks and greenspaces.

Neighbourhoods

Center

In the centre section of the city, which includes the large neighbourhood of Arrowview Heights in the east, is the hospital and fire station, as well as the paper mill and a number of other businesses (many of which are mixed in with the residential areas). Several parks and small lakes can be found in this section, and Dry Creek runs through the neighbourhood.

South

The south section of the city includes the large neighbourhood of Cameron Heights and is mostly residential, with a few parks and small bodies of water. Ship Creek runs through this section and the Alberni Inlet Trailhead (for hiking) can be found here.

Single-family homes are most common in the north section of the city, and come with affordable price tags.
Most single-family homes in the area include at least a single garage, and many are on large lots. There are a number of commercial properties available, also at reasonable prices, and vacant land can be found in this section as well.

School District 70 operates nine elementary schools and two secondary schools. There are also two alternative schools, as well as a French school operated by The Conseil scolaire francophone de la Colombie-Britannique.
Port Alberni has two post-secondary options. North Island College has a campus in the city and offers programs in health, trades, technology, tourism, and business. Pacific Coast University provides courses in workplace health sciences, including workplace safety, disability studies, and health promotion.
Residents can also attend Vancouver Island University in nearby Nanaimo, which has classes in fields such as business, arts, health, tourism, and education.
