Cariboo rests on the southwestern border of Coquitlam, where it meets the city of Burnaby. It is a small, quiet neighbourhood that offers a few amenities like strip malls and elementary schools on a couple ofits busier streets. Cariboo has a fairly young population, and many residents have Chinese, Korean, or Japanese descent. Its diversity can be seen in the small shops and restaurants providing imported goods and exotic flavours. Public transit provides access to other areas of Coquitlam and Burnaby, and the neighbourhood is located next to the Trans-Canada and Lougheed highways.

Located in the southwestern portion of Coquitlam, the neighbourhood of Cariboo extends from North Road in the west to Blue Mountain Street in the east, and from Austin Avenue in the north to the Trans-Canada Highway in the south. Public elementary schools within the neighbourhood include Lord Baden-Powell Elementary School and Alderson Elementary School. Public secondary school options can be found just outside of the neighbourhood. Our Lady of Fatima School provides a private school option within the neighbourhood. There are no post-secondary options in Cariboo, so residents must travel outside of the neighbourhood to access such institutions.The closest options are Coquitlam College just north of Cariboo, Pacific Vocational College in Burnaby (west of Cariboo), and Simon Fraser University (also in Burnaby).


Public Transportation

Several bus routes operated by TransLink run through and around the neighbourhood, including routes 151, 152, 156, and 157.These routes allow passengers to access other areas of Coquitlam and surrounding communities. SkyTrain (Millennium Line) and West Coast Express buses (C9) also service the area.

There are a few parks located in Cariboo, including Lower Lougheed Park, which offers basketball courts, walking paths, a playground, benches, and treed areas; Guilby Park, with swings, benches, and greenspace; and Burns Park, featuring a playground, walking paths, benches, treed areas, grass areas, and a spray pad for use in the summer. There is also greenspace, a playground, and a basketball court at Lord Baden-Powell Elementary, as well as playground equipment, a community garden, greenspace, and walking paths at Alderson Elementary. Mackin Park is located just outside of the neighbourhood in Maillardville and offers a skateboard park, ball diamond, water spray park, a playground, walking trails, a sports field, and restroom facilities.

While there are no recreation/community centres located in Cariboo, some can be found in nearby neighbourhoods. Place Maillardville Community Centre offers a variety of programs for people of all ages. Programs include music classes, craft workshops, sports classes, day camps, drop-in times, cooking classes, art classes, dog training, dance classes, French classes, fitness classes, book clubs, movie nights, and special events. The Cameron Recreation Complex located in nearby Burnaby has fitness classes, drop-in gym times, tennis classes, a weight and cardio room, a library, and events and programs. Outside the complex are a children’s play area and an outdoor fitness circuit.
