Chestermere is located in the southwestern part of the province and has a population of over 19,000 people. The city covers 32.94 square kilometres just east of Calgary and is situated near the communities of Airdrie, Drumheller, Okotoks, and Langdon. Chestermere surrounds a body of water known as Chestermere Lake, and is divided into more than a dozen neighbourhoods. The city was once a town called Chestermere Lake during the period of 1977 to 1993, and received city status in 2015.

Lifestyle and Culture

The northern section of the city is mostly residential, with park space, the northern tip of Chestermere Lake, and some smaller lakes and ponds. Large agricultural areas are located at the northern edge of this section, as is the Trans-Canada Highway.

Besides the residential areas in the central section, there are commercial areas with restaurants, service providers, and retail stores. This section also has a community centre, park space, schools, small ponds, the city hall building, agriculture fields, and the middle portion of Chestermere Lake. The Chestermere-Kirkby Airfield is also located here.

Residential areas also make up most of the southern section of the city, along with schools, park space, small ponds, agriculture fields, and the southern tip of Chestermere Lake.


Entertainment and Tourism

Lakeside Golf Club is located in the city and features a semi-private 18-hole course and a clubhouse with an onsite restaurant. The club offers golf lessons, leagues, and tournaments, as well as a venue for private events such as weddings, corporate meetings, and anniversary parties. The club has three membership types to choose from, which include equity (full member privileges, with right to sell membership in future and retain the profits), annual (full equity status for a year), and restricted (unlimited games at limited times). Public tee times are also offered.

Chestermere Lake is a large body of water in the middle of the city. There is a sandy beach area at Anniversary Park, which also includes restroom facilities.
